Cause & Country
Serving the Soldiers
Sponsored by the National Park Service
Presented by the Potomac Citizens,
at Fort Washington Park, on the Potomac River in Fort Washington, Maryland.
Check back soon for 2017 dates!
Take a trip back in time to the late summer and early fall of 1864. The war has gone on entirely too long, much longer than anyone expected. Washington City is threatened. At Fort Washington, the garrison soldiers, both healthy and infirm, man their positions and go through their paces. The Ladies Aid Society gathers to prepare necessaries for the troops fighting nearby. A small fair beckons VIP guests from the city. Maryland neighbors sell their wares to the Fort residents. The medical staff, cooks and laundresses do their best to care for physical needs of the Fort residents. The chaplain caters to their souls, holds services and otherwise supports the little community.
Civilian impressions include Sanitary Fair booth presenters, industrial room participants, Washington City VIPs, medical staff, Maryland farmers and local contractors, under the coordination of Vaughan Hansen of the Potomac Citizens.
Relevant special impressions welcomed.
